The main methods the Oklahoma Heritage Association uses to achieve its mission of preserving Oklahoma’s history and promoting pride in the state are educating Oklahoma students about the state’s rich heritage and honoring leaders who preserve Oklahoma's history.
By offering more than $4,000,000 in scholarships to Oklahoma high school students, the Oklahoma Heritage Association hopes to encourage students to continue their education in the state and then make their homes here. Heritage Week competitions provide 4th through 12th grade students the chance to embrace their heritage, and win cash prizes for their efforts.
Each year, the Oklahoma Heritage Association honors an individual who has created a legacy of pride for future generations with the Lee Allan Smith Oklahoma Legacy Award. The award is presented during our Heritage Week awards ceremony, held at the Oklahoma State Capitol.
Oklahoma's heritage comes alive during the Association and Museum's interactive Versus Series! The live presentations "pit" a historic Oklahoman against his or her modern day contemporary. By "pit" we mean compare and contrast in a friendly manner. Topics range from Oklahoma's rich sports legacy to our state's unique involvement in the film industry.
