Oklahoma Heritage Association

Oklahoma Heritage Scholarship Competition
Each year, the Oklahoma Heritage Association offers more than $500,000 in scholarships to high schoolers who have paid attention in their Oklahoma history classes. In the Oklahoma Heritage Scholarship Competition, ninth through 12th grade students take a test on Oklahoma history. Those with high scores in each county receive a $1,000 cash scholarship or tuition grant to an Oklahoma college or university. Most counties have at least three scholarships available. Click here to see the scholarships available in your county.

The 2011 competition will be held on a Saturday in April. 2011 Scholarship information and Study Guide will be available in December 2010

$5,000 Oklahoma Hall of Fame Scholarship
For the first time in 2010, the Oklahoma Heritage Association and Gaylord-Pickens Museum will award one Oklahoma high school senior the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Scholarship. The $5,000 scholarship, which is dispersed to the winning student over four years, is based on the student’s leadership roles, civic/community involvement, academic achievement, and knowledge and pride of our great state. Students must commit to attending an Oklahoma college or university to be considered, and students must be nominated for this scholarship by teachers, administrators, or any other adult not related to the student.

Personal donations from Oklahoma Hall of Fame inductees from across the years and supporters of the Hall, Oklahoma Heritage Association and Gaylord-Pickens Museum have made the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Scholarship possible. A committee of Oklahoma Hall of Fame inductees participate in the selection of the scholarship recipient.

Applications for the 2010 Oklahoma Hall of Fame Scholarship are due Oct. 1.

The Association and Museum also offer the $10,000 John W. and Mary D. Nichols scholarship to high school seniors. Students may be nominated for this scholarship by teachers or administrators not related to the student. The scholarship is based on the student’s demonstrated knowledge and appreciation of Oklahoma history, as well as academic achievement, citizenship and leadership. As the name implies, the scholarship is made possible through the generosity of the late John and Mary Nichols.
